Ask Me Anything About Walking

What Do You Want to Know?

How many dogs are walked at any one time?

Harris Hounds believes dogs have more fun if they can play and interact with other dogs. Our groups are kept small with groups of up to a maximum 6 dogs per person. Group are carefully selected with breed, age, sex and personality in mind and can be discussed with the owner beforehand.

Do you arrange picking up and dropping off the dogs?

We collect your dog from your home/place of work at an agreed time set by you and then return them after their walk.

Do I need to be home when you collect or drop off my dog?

No. Most clients are comfortable sharing a set of keys with Harris Hounds to enable us to collect and drop off your dog even if you are not home.

What do you do in case of an emergency?

In the unlikely event of an emergency, we will immediately call and notify you. In the original consultation, we ensure that we have all the family emergency contact details. If veterinary assistance is needed, we will take your dog to your named vet or, depending on the circumstances, to the nearest possible one.

What do I do if I need to cancel?

Please contact us by email or telephone giving at least 72 hours notice, for no charges to apply.

Where do you walk?

We will cater to your dog’s needs and current walking locations including, but not limited to: Dartmoor, Plym Bridge, Saltrum, Bovisands Beach, Radford Woods. All of these mentioned walks, are safe and away from traffic however if you feel you dog would be better suited to a walk elsewhere, then we will try to accommodate this.

What happens in bad weather?

We get wet!! We will clean and dry your dog off as much as possible. We do ask that you leave out a towel out and if you have a hose that we have access to this.

Do your services cater for all dog breeds?

We take each dog on its own merit and not on reputation of particular breeds. We meet all dogs before we walk them and each new dog is subject to a trial period. Any instances of aggressive behaviour will be investigated and we reserve the right to refuse to walk any dog.

When are you available to walk my dog?

We walk all day, Monday to Friday. Weekend bookings are available for regular clients.

Do you walk dogs off the lead?

It depends on what you want- but generally yes! If your dog is a little bit rusty on their recall then we can keep them on a long lead. and let them run and play in safety! We will only let your dog off lead once we have written consent and it is safe to do so.

We just got a puppy and we both work, what services do you provide for a puppy?

Puppies usually have to go out every 2-3 hours. For example if you are gone for 8 hours, we will come over twice during the day and let the puppy out, feed and cuddle the puppy. Having a dog walker for a puppy makes training much easier, we will work with your puppy to heel, sit, stay, etc. We will also be able to introduce them to other dogs, once they have received their vaccinations.

I only require occasional walks for my dog, not every week or every day, can you help?

Yes. We are happy to provide services as and when you require, assuming we have diary availability.  We recommend that you give as much notice as possible.

What security measures do you have?

Your key will be kept secure and away from personal information and no key can be identified to any property. In the event of your key being lost or stolen we will advise you immediately. Your personal information will never be sold or discussed with any 3rd parties in accordance with the Data Protection Act.

Will I meet my dog walker?

Yes. We offer a free face-to-face initial consultation in order to understand your dog’s personality and needs. This will also give you the chance to get to know Harris Hounds, and ask any questions you might have and find out how things work.
